DETAILED TOUR ITINERARY FOR 07 NIGHTS & 08 DAYS
Dibrugarh-Mon-Mokokchung-Kohim-Dzukou Valley-Khonoma-Dimapur
Day 1: Dibrugarh- Mon ( 5 hrs /130 kms)
Arrival at Dibrugarh Airport/Railway Station and head straight toMon.Mon is a 4 hrs drive from Dibrugarh. You can enjoy the evening at leisure. Have an overnight stay at Hotel.
Day 2: Mon
Early morning,after breakfast drive to explore the nearby locals and meet & interact with the local people of Mon.Situated at an altitude of 897.64 meters it is the land of the Konyaks (One of the fiercest tribes in the world). Even though there is a legal administrative system, but actually it is ruled by tribal chiefs called Anghs (locally known as ‘Wang’ meaning the beginning of everything). Mon is the only district in Nagaland to have this unique institution of Anghship. The word of his is law in these parts. His succession is hereditary in nature. The Konyaks believe that they were direct descendants of Noah, for they have Biblical names like Mosa, Kaisa, Aron and so on. The konyaks are famous for their tattooed faces , blackened teeth and barbaric practice of Headhunting. Overnight in Mon.
Day 3: Mon – Mokokchung (12 hrs/205kms)
After breakfast start your drive to Mokokchung. The most significant urban centre in all of Nagaland after Dimapur and Kohima and the home of Ao Naga.The popular tourist spots in the area include the District Museum, the Town main park, (located just above the Town Center), Unman village (which is regarded as the oldest and largest) and the Ao village. In addition, visitors might also be interested in exploring places like Longkhum, Langpangkong, Mopungchukit and Chuchuyimlang located within the district. Since agriculture constitutes the main occupation in the area, festivals during the sowing and harvesting months are sure to enhance the tourist’s experience.Overnight stay in hotel.
Day 4: Mokokchung – Kohima (7 hrs/150kms)
Early morning after breakfast,we will visit the local sight seeing.After local sight seeing,we will further proceed to Kohima.By evening reach Kohima for overnight stay in hotel.
Day 5: Kohima – Dzukou Valley
Also known as “The Valley of Flowers”, the valley is situated at an altitude of 2138.4 meters behind the Japfu Mountain Ranges. The valley is the home of many varieties of flowers including Lillies, Euphorbias and Rhododendrons. The serpentine stream, shaped like the curves of Venus, flows through Dzukou and becomes frozen during winter. It offers one of the best trekking and bird watching trails in North-Eastern India. Despite, perhaps, the hard terrain and basic facilities, the valley offers the most unusual and fascinating trekking experiences. Set up tents and spend the afternoon exploring the valley. Have a simple camp dinner around a bon fire.
Day 6: Dzukou – Kohima
Early morning explore the valley to view the sunrise. Take your breakfast in the camp and start proceeding towards trek starting point where vehicles will be ready to take you back to the Hotel at Kohima.Refresh yourself and enjoy the Kohima local market and nearby sightseeing..
Day 7: Kohima-Khonoma
Early Morning, leave for Khonoma village which is about an hour away from Kohima and spend the day exploring the village, understanding the life in the village followed by a drive to the Mithun Sanctuary. Our guide will take you on a walk around the village and explain the rich history of the village and about all the battles that they have had in the past. Head towards the forested areas where one might get to spot the Mithun. The Mithun is the local Bison and looks like a smaller version of the Nilgiri Gaur. Return to Kohima by evening and overnight stay at Hotel.
Day 8: Khonoma- Dimapur( 4 hrs/90 kms)
See-off to Dimapur Airport for Home.
